Make a confidential complaint

If you wish to make a confidential complaint regarding any issues in relation to Commercial Vehicle Roadworthiness, Drivers Hours, Tachographs or Unlicensed Haulage you can make a complaint in any of the following ways.
 

  • By phone – You can speak to one of our staff on 091 872600 or call our lo-call confidential hotline on 091 872647.​
  • Online make a complaint online​​ via  the RSA website.​
  • In Writing – Post your complaint to Enforcement Section, Road Safety Authority, Clonfert House, Bride Street, Loughrea, Co Galway
  • By email – Complete a complaint form (DOC)​ and submit to enforcement@rsa.ie


Please note in all instances you may be asked for specific details concerning:

  • Nature of the complaint
  • Vehicle registration numbers ​
  • Operators name and address
  • Time and place of the alleged breach
  • If you can supply specific detailed information this will be helpful in ensuring that a comprehensive investigation can be carried out.
  • We would ask that you supply us with your name and contact details, to enable us follow up and request further information if necessary. Your details will not be disclosed.


You can be assured that all complaints will be treated seriously and in the strictest confidence. 

How is your complaint dealt with?

Once a complaint is received by the RSA office it will be logged and assigned to a Transport Officer and or Vehicle Inspector who will fully investigate each complaint in an efficient and professional manner.

This may include:

  • Examining our databases to establish if the vehicle or person concerned is a licensed operator. 
  • Notifying the operator about the legal requirement for a licence. 
  • Seek tachograph records for each vehicle owned by the operator. 
  • Carrying out Operator Premises Inspections and or Roadside Inspections. 
  • Supplying details of the complaint to An Garda Siochana 
  • Examining whether or not prosecution is warranted and preparation of the necessary  evidence for court


Specific outcomes from investigations are between the operator being investigated and the Road Safety Authority, these results are not shared with the complainant. 

However, any convictions which are secured by the Road Safety Authority are published on prosecutions section of ​the RSA website. ​
